Four Reasons I Valued Community as a Pastor

Church Leader,

As a pastor, I knew I needed community. I taught from the pulpit that we all need community. I encouraged our people to join a small group Bible study - not only for the deeper biblical training, but also for the fellowship and care that can come from these groups. As much as I believed in community, it was often difficult for me to find community for myself. I couldn’t join one of our standard Bible studies, because when they met I was occupied (speaking). Often, if I found community on my own it wasn’t with people who truly understood the nature of my work as a pastor.

One of the best things for me personally was the community - and so much more - that I found in a group experience at Leadership Network. One reason I was willing to leave a healthy, growing church and join the team at LN is that I knew firsthand what a blessing the ministry had been for me personally.

I don’t know where you are, pastor, in your own journey to find community or your need for it, but I would love to encourage you to consider one of several leader groups launching this fall. We are selective in the groups we form, because we want to create communities of "true peers", but if there is one available to you I think it is worth your time and investment.

Future Church Understanding: Leadership Network has a 35 year history of helping the Church "see around the corner". Accelerated Innovation: We fuel conversations that change the world - faster than if we were not in the equation. Our proven methods of collaborative action plan creation has helped hundreds of churches take what we are learning and implement it in the church.

Peer Learning: One reason we are more selective in forming our groups is that we want to create the greatest possible environment for those in the group. We learn best from others, especially when they clearly understand our context. Iron truly does sharpen iron in our groups. We have often had ministry leaders tell us they didn’t know anyone else had the same problem they had. And, when they were exposed to someone who did it changed their paradigm for good.

Genuine Fellowship: I loved the people in my leader group. They knew what a day in my life was like and could speak into it with clarity and encouragement. I know throughout my ministry career I have advocates for me who are there when I need them. The ministry, as hard as it can be, is more manageable when we don’t have to do it alone.

We have several groups beginning this fall. One I highly recommend is the Next Level Pastors Leader Group, which will be directed by Brent Dolfo. Brent is a master facilitator.
